I started my woodworking career in 2001 as a cabinetmaker in the DC metro area. The co-op where I worked gave me access to a wealth of practical knowledge from the other cabinetmakers, furniture makers, artists, and business owners with whom I was privileged to share space. During this time, I also began sketching furniture pieces, collecting design ideas, and finding my stylistic “voice”.

In 2007, I was invited to Calcutta to work with an anti-trafficking NGO that had a community center inside one of the red light districts. The goal of this center was to not only provide basic health care to trafficked women, but also to provide a basic education to their children. I spent six months in Calcutta helping the NGO develop a woodworking program while teaching 22 students. The idea of the program was to give the children new career and life options outside of the red light districts. Based on this program, I was invited back to India a year later to develop a similar class for an NGO in the Himalayas north of New Delhi. To date, four of my students have started their own carpentry businesses.

It wasn’t until after I returned from India that I started to integrate my experiences and artistic sympathies into a style that felt like my own. Although personal style is always evolving, I feel like I have found a basic design language that flows through all of my work. My ideas draw from design elements found in art nouveau and arts and crafts. Some clients have commented that they see elements of Asian influences in my tree-themed furniture.

For the past five years, I have based my workshop in Virginia where I have handcrafted custom furniture of my own design as well as designs generated by clients. I enjoy the intellectual stimulation that comes with crafting new designs.

I showcase at most Artrider shows and other fine art and craft shows around the country. I do ship across the continental United States, typically providing personal hand delivery east of the Mississippi. Please contact me directly if you have questions about shipping to other locations.
